I collect young nettle tops locally as it is a fantastic herb with many uses including food, clothing and skincare products.
Nettle (Urtica dioica) is excellent for treating eczema and other itchy skin conditions and can be used as a natural deep cleanser, especially useful for oily skin. It is used in bath soaks, body wraps, facials, soaps and salves.
Nettles are said to encourage hair growth and can be added to hair wraps. It is anti-inflammatory, astringent, ant-bacterial, healing, mildly deodorant and stimulating.
Oatmeal (Avena sativa) has been documented for its use in skincare as far back as 2000 BC as it contains saponins which have intense cleansing properties
It is used in many food and cosmetic products as it is packed with essential minerals and vitamins. Oatmeal offers a pleasant and effective exfoliating texture and is a humectant, meaning it helps moisturise skin.
It contains both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and is ideal for sensitive skin, helping to relieve itchy and uncomfortable conditions.
